Drought 2011
The State of Texas is experiencing drought conditions, and residents in the Houston and surrounding areas are experiencing extreme drought conditions. The District has more than ample water supply to make it through the historic drought. This year the District was the first in Fort Bend County to build and operate a Surface Water Treatment Plant. The plant is capable of producing three million gallons of water a day (3MGD). The District also owns and operates four ground water plants, these ground water plants along with the surface water plant produce enough water for all of our current and future customers water needs. As always the District promotes water conservation, but has not issued and does not foresee issuing any water restrictions.
On April 29, 2011 the District held the Grand Opening of the First Surface Water Treatment Plant in Fort Bend County, The James K. Williams Surface Water Treatment Plant. In attendance were many County Officials along with Officials from the Districts neighboring cities. The plant is currently pumping two to three million gallons a day into the Districts Distribution System.
